A Slight Distraction...

... from all the Old Midland stuff, is the arrival today of a Farish DP1 and 6 pin decoder.

Last week I finally jumped in and bought a NCE pro cab starter set as I heard it is the best of the cheaper systems and I didn't want to fork out loads for something like the Lenz, which I may not use anyway.

Though i am not a diesel man, I have always liked the look of the original deltic, from when I was a wee nipper.

First impressions are very good, and boy does it move sublimey on the track -just on DC at the moment.Puts all my steamers to shame.

It is unlikely I will be tempted by more diesels though.

Are you going to get the wheels turned down or just get the replacement wheelsets then?

Neither Kris.

This was a rare impulse buy and it will run on a couple of metres of N track which I still have a bit of for the enjoyment of my grandsons - they will love the lights!

I thought I would try fitting a decoder to the Deltic and maybe adding sound to get a hang of how it all works. All I need to do is to work out how to remove the body without damaging anything - I'm a complete diesel novice in that respect!!

If I get on with DCC I will think about chipping my MR engines in the future, though at present I am going to keep that analogue. I am also not 100% confident that shorts won't occur in my built locos and blow decoders...

I can't get over how much better this diesel runs than my other N steamers though, even the Union Mills!

However, the code 55 track looks even worse against the easitrac than I remembered!

Good news on the easitrac front is that I finished that lingering turnout and have started on a new one - and surprisingly didn't mind doing it!!

Regards

Chris
