Two cut and shut carriages – using Bachmann sunshine carriages as the donor vehicle.

C60 all Third:

This carriage is a bit different as it has recessed grab and door handles. The build follows my usual routine of cutting out a lot of the plastic wall of the donor carriage.

In addition I removed the end to get the correct length and added the cast bow ends onto the carriage:

The door handles recess was backed with strips of plasticard.

Then it was onto the interior was scratch built, using Comet corridor sections and Ratio seats.

Underneath, the carriage has 7ft bogies and these are the Comet ones, together with Comet vacuum cylinders and dynamo. I have left the Bachmann truss rods and battery boxes.

Both carriages are seen here ready for spraying (Rooftop ventilators were added after the photo was taken).

E151 Composite carriage:

This was from the first batch of large window stock that was built in 1936. At the time, the door droplights were smaller than subsequent carriages, meaning the numbers etc. were painted onto the cream rather than the chocolate. This carriage will match the all third and brake 3rd early sunshine seen in the photo above.

However, this carriage is 58ft 7” rather than the Bachmann 60ft 11 ½” so needed to be cut in the middle and filled as appropriate. 

Later the same day:

The interior utilises two carriage interiors cut to fit into the carriage.

Looking almost complete:

This carriage will use the Bachmann bogies; truss rods and battery boxes, everything else on the underframe will be new.

Both carriages have been fitted with Kadee couplings and are ready for the spray booth. Seen here being hauled by my Accurascale Manor.
