Up and Running
It's been a busy couple of weeks, both in terms of real-life - my best friend getting married, plus the usual work concerns - and also on the railway front. I've got the entire track laid and wired, and (so far) it is working well. One of the things that was worrying me most about the tracklaying was the need to modify points, and bring down some sort of dropper from the frog. Turns out, I'd been reading guides for oo track, and Peco's N gauge range points don't need any of this! All you need to do is wire both rails, and then insulate each piece of track from the next.
My next concern is making sure that small wheelbase locos don't get stuck over the points, particularly the slip, which for my sanity ended up being insulfrog. To this end, I've been looking through the list of which 08 shunters are available from Graham Farish, because what heritage railway doesn't have one of these much-loved machines available to them. Once again I shall be indulging myself over being sensible, and will be trying to get my hands on 08833, the Liverpool street pilot. I grew up with the Great Eastern being the subject of railway models in the house, leading to a lifelong love of the livery.
In the meantime, I'll be starting to look at the fiddleyard, and motorising the points, which will mean setting up a control panel somewhere - more woodwork!
Once I have done all of those things, then it'll finally be time to do things like start to ballast and paint, which I am very much looking forwards to!
