The 1/50 project, some vague layout ideas

I have been thinking about a layout. Well, we do don’t we. There must be a million thought about layouts for every one that ever got built, layout planning is a whole sub culture of the railway modelling world.

Anyway I may have an L shaped space.

This is the kind of idea I’m playing with. Very rough sketch, mainly playing about with the idea of a deeper layout with hidden storage to the rear to reduce length. I do think the run round is needed, the rest is just initial thoughts.

It uses a sectorplate to access hidden storage, my thinking being that it saves about 600 mm of pointwork for effectively a 1 m headshunt.

All very nebulous so far. However it hinges on the possibility of a reliable metre long 4 way sectorplate remotely controlled. Oh, and kinda inexpensive to build.  Time for messing about with wood and electronics.

The remote-controlled sector plate sounds interesting. Viewed via a camera?

But we do need a context map. Which of these locations are you talking about? 🙂

CCTV would be a possibility Mikkel, I use it on Kelvinbank to view the traverser from the railway room. "Spare" parts from systems I have installed over the years.

As to location I was thinking about here;

Small independent country, mix of languages from the area.
