Superb afternoon out at St Alban's South Signalbox
Sunday was an open day at the St Alban's South Signalbox. My wife and I took the opportunity to visit and meet up with my son halfway between our home and his.
It was an real treat, such a friendly group of enthusiastic people and a wonderful collection of signalling equipment. The site was obviously a real community asset with lots of young families enjoying the attractive little garden and model railway. We were given a brilliant demonstration of the block instruments in the box and folks got to pull levers and learn about interlocking. One of their activities the group do is provide visits for local school children which emphasized railway safety.
I really liked their latest donation. Apparently someone had left this to the group in their will.
I loved the blue spectacle glasses, which when mixed with the yellow colour of an oil lamp, give a green light.
I thoroughly recommend a visit as they are a group who deserves our support.
