GWR/WR Herring P22 Hoppers in P4 part 1

Not much going on at the moment due to the house going on the market, but the tinking table is still working of sorts via a travelling modelling box. On the go at the moment is a rake of 6 ex GWR P22 hoppers. These are a straight build from the Cambrian kits and when finished will represent a fully loaded stone train. As they'll also be filled full of lead I'm not too worried about springing or compensation, though the pin points have been filed down a bit to induce a little slop. One was completed as a trial and uses buffers from Lanarkshire Models. The others are being built in a batch

The empty rake is another story. That will be from 6 of the Rumney models kits and will be sprung. The aim of all of this is to have an empty rake that gets pushed into the McAlpine stone loading point in what would have been the Cheddar West siding before reappearing fully loaded. Or something like that as the exchange will actually be conducted via the fiddle yard.

Good luck with the project, Andrew. It took me long enough to build a rake of 5 Cambrian kits in P4 (heavy and unsprung, like yours).

But even more luck with the rake of Rumney Models ones. I won't be joining you on that one, not that I don't like Justin's exquisite kit, but you're younger than me and I have better things to do with my modelling time....

Trouble is I have a box with many Rummey chassis of various descriptions. Can’t resist them!

Mike.

I know what you mean. My ‘that’ll do’ point is a lot closer to the start than some folk on here. Adam I’m talking about you now!

I applaud your persistence.   I built a rake of 7 Cambrian ones from 6 1/2 supplied kits and needed a long lie down afterwards.   I think I did most of those while in a hotel in Glasgow for work.   Scratchbuilding the missing bits (at the time Mr. Cambrian couldn't mould any more so they were NLA) for the seventh one was a real challenge.

I don't think my eyesight is up to a brass one, even if I were inclined to try on for 'fun'.

Nice to see you getting on, bud. I look forward to the build. I wouldn’t mind doing a few for myself one day, so I will follow your work with interest!

All the best,

Nick.
