Trackplan

blog-0832083001397207371.jpgThe Clachbeg layout is a micro, measuring 110 scale feet along each side, with board depths of about 29 scale feet...

The plan was drawn using Templot; the 12'3" radius curved turnout to the mine really tested the limits of the software. As I lay the track I'll adjust some of the timbering, as I have varying rail lengths and also am making the joints in places different from the Templot suggestions; at this scale there is plenty of space on the templates for annotations!

The fiddle yard turntable is 55' long, which should allow for a locomotive plus four wagons—a complete train—on each track.

The Stonemason Siding is 20' long, hence accommodates two wagons.

The passing loop is 1 chain long, hence accommodates five or six wagons and coaches.

The goods shed siding is 30' long, hence accommodates three wagons.

The turntable spur is 16' long, hence accommodates one or two wagons, or a loco plus a short wagon. The turntable itself is just 9' in diameter, sufficient for a locomotive.

The mine spur is inclined except for the final 9' panel, hence accommodates one wagon only.
