Right finally finished or so I thought. Transfered all the photos to the pen drive looked at them before writing this post, and see that I had not fitted the front number plate well thats tomorrows job now.

I have built the tiniest test track you can imagine, and this runs lovely. Not much to write here as it was just pputting it back together. Adding buffers, safety valves etc.

I will just let the photos show the last of the story. Here it is finished in it's first BR livery. With the LMS on the left hand side now moved.

You can alway tell 7mm models -- there're the ones with bright brass rings around the axles.......

It is the down side of Slaters wheels, For some reason my blacking was not very effective on this one.

Only just caught up with this build series. Looks loverly, but one belated question - boilerbands?

They are there, I use Magictape ones. Which stand out more when lined. They are nice and thin.

Oh yes, sorry for not looking a bit closer! (I'm too used to 4mm stuff, where boilerbands are always a yard too thick!)

I've only just found your description of building the Midland 3130. The finished item looks brilliant. Did the kit go together well, were there any problem areas, and most importantly did you find it dimensionally accurate? I like the look of your model so much I'm considering buying one myself.

Thanks.

It was quite straight forward. I found it went together quite quickly which is always a good sign. I do not know if Dragon models have done any updates. Mine was an old kit but it came with both Deeley and Johnson fittings. I would love to have ago at an early one in red livery. As far as I can recall there was nothing wrong with the dimensions.

Thanks for your reply. I will now send for one from Dragon. I asked about dimensions because as you will know most kits are great whilst odd other kits have dimensionally inaccurate parts which create all sorts of problems.

One more question, can you remember, did your kit come with the early Johnson full width tool box that sits between the water tank filler and the end of the tender?  I model the Midland circa 1905, so mine will be in red - a lovely livery.  Cheers.

Hi

Yes it did, there was also a high front coal plate and tool boxes. The only thing I was worried about with the tender was lack of air vents but I was informed by the good folk on here that they where only fitted if pickup apparatus was on the tender.

Hi

Thanks for the information. I have contacted Dragon Models asking if they've got one in stock, just waiting for a reply now so I can place an order - I'm looking forward to building it already. Yes I agree, my understanding of tender air vents is like wise - they were only fitted if the tender had water pickup gear.
