Trick cyclists, or my adventures with Magnorail.........
As per the last entry, I purchased a Magnorail starter kit (new cliche warning, every layout needs a working cyclist or two!). Not having had that much spare time recently I've eventually made a start.
On opening the box it quickly became apparent that a retro fit might not be the easiest, the Magnorail track being approx 6.8mm deep. So I decided to make a sub board to get the track all up an running before hacking into the boards were it will end up being fitted.
In the box there is
7 Sprues of track
10 Sprues of red lnks
1 Motor, gears, fitting screws and assorted fittings
1 Cyclist
So a couple of pics
Overall the stuff is very easy to put together, the tracks simply clip together and are then screwed using the supplied screws to the board, the motor and gears are a very easy fit, simply clean a bit of sprue and flash of the gears add the rubber drive wheels and screw the motor to the baseplate with two screws.
The only slight problem I had was some of the red links seemed a little tight, they do need to be fairly free to go round the tight corners I wanted, a quick reem out and they were fine.
I have had it running quite nicely, although at first I couldn't understand why it kept pushing the red links out near the drive, until I sussed out that in fact the road surface will keep it in place correctly. After that putting a 'plate' over the motor section the chain ran perfectly.
As can be seen, I've put the Magnorail close to the board edge as this unit will have to drop in right next to the tram tracks, so that should be fun in a 2 inch space there'll be Magnorail, Faller guide wire and tram tracks!
'Bradley' as the cyclist has been christened is nearly built up, somewhat fiddly but getting there.
The road surface is the most worrying bit, as it's recommended thickness is .5mm and I've got blend this section of road into the rest of it, I'm currently thinking very thin plasticard over the magnorail with a very thin smear of plaster to match the rest of the road........
It may be a bit of experimentation time coming up!
