In a scandalous misuse of the limited time remaining before Railex, Jackie and I took the Cheltenham Flyer from Tyseley to Paddington and Back with 'Castle' class 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe'.   The run was superb - a storming ascent of Sapperton and some fast running in both directions on the main line. 40 minutes early into Paddington and then an hour early back to Gloucester. Ballasting Big Track

With a bit of spare time I decided to tackle ballasting the second base board half. I have been using what woodland scenics, describe as "Fine"     When its this big there is no point messing with an eyedropper.. It has long been a tradition that my Dad and I always visit the Derby show on the Saturday. We have done so right back to the days of the Assembly Rooms, and the late opening until around 7pm. One project down, one project half-way done, one project started!

First off, the project down....   The Ratio suburban carriage is finished. I've now got two brake thirds, another all third and an all first to either build or re-build.   The project half done is the third of my LMS/GC bashes. I'm doing a composite carriage and so far have finished the interior, added the matchboarding and begun the teak finish and white roof. Hi,   Since the last Blog entry, we have been moving forward with more scenic work on the layout.   Ground Works   With the rough shape of the bridge of the dis-used branch line in place on the scenic boards, it was now time to start forming the rest of the surrounding terrain. From diorama to black box

I started Nice Street (Urban Scene) as a diorama. I decided to continue with the well tank chassis. Before I came to Brazil I had got some nice castings from Laurie Griffin, Springs, crossheads etc.   The kit has turned brass cylinders, which are very nice but need a lot of work to get LG's slides bars fitted. So I fabricated some using the turned ones for size.   Well that was just the start of my problems. First up, here is a picture of what I've done with the top of the water tank. in the absence of pictures or drawings I'm hoping I've got something which is plausible. I stuck some plastruct angle inside the tank and then tried to model some tie-bars to hold it all together. Class 31 (Hornby Railroad Range) - Bargain ?

I'm busy buying stock to give me the option to switch my layout from the early 60's to the early 70's so that I can 'ring the changes' in about an hour. I'd really like a Class 31 in blue but think the only one that's available is the Hornby Railroad version and just want to be sure that it's smooth runner and not of the coffee grinder motor ilk of some earlier Hornby offerings. I'd be grateful for any views that owners of this loco might have.

Wagons, loco and a Mk 1 coach weathered for me!

Just for a change here are some of my own stock weathered for use on a variety of layouts.   First up a Hornby Black 5 which was part modified by Tim of RMWeb at Doncaster   The modification at the front end make a big difference - thanks Tim!   and now a dirty Mark 1 Corridor First.
